Personal Info:
As a kid in New Jersey, Rick got the radio bug after seeing a live radio broadcast from a local department store. Not only did the job look like fun, but it didn’t look like work…and he was hooked! He tried to get into a broadcasting school in nearby Philadelphia but because he was too young, he wasn’t accepted. Growing up near Philly gave him an opportunity to hear some of the best deejays in the country and imitating them became a daily pastime.
With a turntable, cassette recorder and amplifier, each night the basement of his home was turned into a make-shift radio station. When his family moved to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania in his senior year of high school, he quickly became a fan of that city’s top-40 station and spent time bugging the deejays about how he could get onto the RADIO!
The bugging paid off! One November afternoon while making a “Blue Light Special announcement in a local department store, the Program Director of his favorite station approached Rick with the question, “Was that you who just made that announcement?
That’s pretty much where it all began…with a Blue Light Special. Rick was invited to come by the station and was thereafter hired to do some overnight part time work. The dream was coming true! Soon, a full-time job became available working Midnight to 6 a.m., a great way to “cut one’s teeth. From Harrisburg, Rick was onto Norfolk, Virginia, where he did afternoon drive, mornings and eventually became the Program Director.
In ’93, his dream job opened-up in his favorite city, Boston. Rick was hired to be the Program Director of WODS, the Oldies station. From Boston, it was on to Phoenix, then Birmingham and now, his favorite station of all time…Sunny 104.3!
For 11 years, Rick worked entirely behind the scenes of radio, doing very little air work. According to Rick, “Being back on the air in a place as great as South Florida is truly a gift. I’m having the best time I’ve ever had in radio!
Rick lives in Wellington with his wife of 23 years, Maryjo, and his three sons, Ricky, Chris and Alex. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family and playing golf.
